The project, which was designed within the scope of the Opera House Architectural Project Competition opened by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, was designed with a completely nature-inspired approach.
Today, the concept of bir Biomimesis that is considered as a mentor beyond the being a model of nature, has begun to be addressed with the development of science and technology. Thanks to digital design and production tools, it is possible to present and produce ideas for this approach and seeing the traces of nature in design are becoming widespread. The sea shells that attract attention with their form / structure / material relations, colors and textures, the mathematical relationships they have and their proximity to the golden ratio, have been the natural models that inspired the design of the Opera House.
The manufacturing process, such as the design process of the shell, will also be performed digitally. The entrance of the building, foyers and hall entrances were arranged in the spaces formed in the expanding areas of the part that was designed on the sea front. Thus, the front part defines the public spaces that serve the city inhabitants. The part extending towards the rear has been privatized and was formed the the venues for the use of opera artists and managers.
Thanks to the integration of the opera hall with the holistic form, the structural strength and acoustic properties of the shell geometry are utilized. The location of the stage and the sofita is located at the peaks where the shell rises by curling. The curved geometry of the shell parts and the customized spaces to be used by the artists make healthy and equal distance connections with both salons.
The structure, establishes the connection with the city by the distribution of the reference curves of the shell on land. It creates itself in the social power it receives from the city and at the same time distributes its cultural power to the city. With walking bands at different levels and with an organic ladder, the structure provides people approach from different directions. The walking bands communicate with the landscape in the front plots and support the continuous and dynamic use of the open space with the watching areas it creates. The staircase with its organic structure meets the people coming from the road elevation and directs them to the entrance of the iconic shell.
The proposed Opera House will be a contribution to the architectural culture of the city, will introduce our city and our country to the world and once again will be a success to be proud of being from İzmir and also will be a gift to the art life of the city.
